Short answer

Movers we checked quote 5 to 7 days for the roughly 1,500 km from Gurgaon to Kolkata along NH-19. If you move between June and September, ask for the load to be waterproofed, and check whether a full-size truck can reach your lane.

Why does it take 5 to 7 days?

Mover (own page) Distance Transit stated
CratoShift about 1,500 km 5 to 7 days
TheTransporter 1,500 km about 7 days

BOXnMOVE also serves this route but states no transit time. CratoShift says the truck runs NH-19, the old Grand Trunk Road corridor, through Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Dhanbad, crossing five states. It says some Uttar Pradesh stretches, between Prayagraj and Varanasi in particular, are slower than the expressways further west, and that trucks usually halt overnight around Varanasi, about 800 km out.

What about the monsoon?

CratoShift says Kolkata is humid all year and very wet from June to September. It packs wooden furniture, books and electronics against moisture on every move, and waterproofs the truck load in the monsoon. Ask any mover you consider what it does for the same months.

Can the truck reach my door?

Part of Kolkata What one mover says to expect
New Town (Rajarhat) High-rise gated housing; society entry rules and lift booking
Salt Lake (Bidhannagar) Wide roads; usually easy access
Ballygunge, Alipore, Behala Some narrow lanes in older localities
North and central Kolkata Narrow lanes are common; a mini tempo may do the last stretch
Howrah Across the Hooghly; planned as its own delivery

What paperwork follows in Kolkata?

  1. Kolkata Police take tenant and domestic-help details through online forms, and its tenant portal also has PDF forms for tenants, domestic help and paying guests.
  2. New Town and Salt Lake fall under Bidhannagar Police and Howrah under its own commissionerate, so check with the local police there.
  3. If your car or bike stays in West Bengal for more than 12 months, re-register it there in Form 27, with the NOC from the Haryana RTO.

Frequently asked questions

How many days does Gurgaon to Kolkata take?

CratoShift publishes 5 to 7 days and TheTransporter about 7 days. One mover explains that some Uttar Pradesh stretches are slow and trucks halt overnight on the way.

Is the June to September monsoon a bad time to move to Kolkata?

It is the wettest time of year there. If you move then, ask the mover to waterproof the truck load and to pack wood, books and electronics against moisture.

Can a full-size truck reach my house in north Kolkata or Howrah?

Not always. One mover says narrow lanes are common in north and central Kolkata, where a mini tempo may carry goods for the last stretch, and that Howrah gets its own delivery plan.

How do I register as a tenant with Kolkata Police?

Kolkata Police offer online forms for tenants and domestic help, and PDF forms on their tenant portal. We could not find the official order that says who must register.
