How does sending it by train differ?

Indian Railways sets its own rules for a bike sent as a parcel. You bring a photocopy of the RC and a government ID to the parcel office, the petrol tank must be empty, and the bike must be packed with a cardboard tag naming the stations. If you travel on the same train, it can go as luggage, but you must be there at least half an hour before departure. Railway rules do not apply to road movers, so follow your mover’s instructions for a road move.

Will I have to re-register the bike?

If it stays in the new state for more than 12 months, yes: our vehicle re-registration guide covers the NOC from the Haryana RTO and the re-registration form.
