Tenant police verification in Gurugram: steps, fee and documents

Reviewed by Anuradha GuptaLast updated How we collect our numbers

Short answer

In Gurugram the landlord has the tenant verified by the police, either online through the Haryana Police citizen services or with a form at the local police station. The official Haryana Police fee table lists tenant verification at Rs 50, within 21 days for a tenant from another district or state.

Is tenant verification compulsory in Gurugram?

Gurugram Police tells landlords to have tenants verified, and the district administration has issued orders under section 144 of the CrPC (now section 163 of the BNSS) requiring house owners to keep a register of their tenants with ID proof. Those orders are issued for set periods. The latest on the district website is dated 8 January 2024. In practice, treat verification as expected of every landlord.

What does it cost and how long does it take?

Service (Haryana Police fee table) Time limit Fee
Tenant verification, tenant from another district or state 21 days Rs 50
Stranger verification, resident of Haryana 5 days Rs 50

Both are available on the HarSamay and eSaral portals and the Jan Sahayak app. The Rs 500 figure seen on some sites is the Gurugram Police fee for a police verification report (PVR), which is a different service.

What details does the form ask for?

The Gurugram Police form is filled and signed by the landlord. It asks for the tenant’s proof of identity (such as a voter card or driving licence), a passport-size photo, permanent and local addresses, two references from the home town, two local references, and the family members living with the tenant.

Step by step

  1. Collect the tenant's details

Get the tenant's ID proof, photo, permanent address, two home-town references and two local references.

  2. Choose online or offline

Online, use the Haryana Police citizen services (HarSamay), eSaral or the Jan Sahayak app. Offline, download the Gurugram Police form.

  3. Submit it

Online, file the tenant verification request and pay Rs 50. Offline, submit the signed form at the police station for the flat's area and keep a copy.

  4. Share a copy with the RWA

Gurugram Police asks landlords to give a copy to the RWA president.
